Anybody out there … ?

So, almost 2 years down the line from me posting on this blog that I can no longer access it, it appears that WordPress still accepts that I am the author of the original maltbyblogger site – enough to keep taking payment for the domain name and sending me various advertisements for their ‘service’.

Thought I’d get my money’s worth and publish a post as it also appears that the blog gets views on a regular basis. I don’t have anything to report politics wise, as I decided a while back that it is not in my best interest healthwise, to do so.

Anyone reading this, please feel free to comment, on any subject or topic and I shall endeavour to respond and engage in conversation and discussion. My updated ramblings can still be found at wwwrite-place.blogspot.com which has been around for 15 years now. Who’d have thought that I’d still have something to write about ?

Regards and best wishes,

WORDPRESS : Happy Engineering ?

For the past week I have been trying to “recover” my account at maltbyblogger.com after being told by WordPress.com that it has been deactivated as the details I have tried to log in with do not match their records. To rectify this, I need to provide a transaction ID, the original activation link, or an email from the address with which the site was registered.

As I do not have access to this as I have changed my email address and was in fact attempting to inform WordPress.com of this, it seems that there is no way of proving my identity and the account can not be retrieved. I have had emails from 2 of WordPress’s “Happiness Engineers” to confirm that this is so. (I have, of course, responded to these “Engineers” and suggested that they are not fulfilling their job title/ description as happiness on my account has not been my experience of this situation. Frustration, confusion and disappointment maybe, but definately not happiness.

So, I am unable to verify my identity and can not recover the account which I have been posting on (and paying for) since 2012. However, I am actually typing this current post onto maltbyblogger.com at this moment and will, presumably, publish it in due course. The apparent paradox of this is that I am using a different device – my phone as opposed to laptop computer.

I do exist, I am who I say I am, I am the creator/owner of the blog in question and I don’t need to verify this by using an obsolete email address, despite WordPress.com not accepting this.

I would never claim to understand the ins and outs of internet workings nor the methods or algorithms used to achieve security and ID verification. I have an idea that this situation has happened because of something to do with my Google account, which is used on various devices of mine – but I wouldn’t swear to that.

It does seem to me though, that for all the ‘secure’ details and identity verification we involve ourselves with to be granted access to our own information, there’s always the risk that it can be compromised. User names, passwords and memorable information are all well and good … until we need to change them, or have them changed for us without our knowledge or consent.

The situation I’ve been describing is for a blog site on which I have, over the years, posted about various local events and political activities as well as personal ramblings which have engaged people in discussion of topical issues. Nothing vitally important in the big scheme of things, if it was lost forever in the ether of the worldwide web. But it has taken much time and research to publish posts and if it did become irretrievable, I would consider myself a bit cheated.

The indispensability of paper and pen or pencil once again confirmed to me.

The Write-Place or the Wrong Blog

As relevant today as 6 years ago.

maltbyblogger

Yesterday I spent some time considering whether to amalgamate this blog, with wwwrite-place.blogspot.com  and call it The WritePlace Is Maltbyblogger or some such thing but having slept on it I’ve decided that it wouldn’t really work.

Actually,  I have had it sort of decided for me by a reader, now probably ex-reader, of maltbyblogger who has castigated me for using it for a political agenda. Now, apart from me not having any political “agenda” – I can’t decide whether to sit down or stand up most days, never mind who to vote for  – I felt I had to refer him to the “About” page of the blog. Though I had almost forgotten myself, there it clearly states what my intentions were/are in making posts and the word “political” is mentioned. But so are the words “topical”, “information”, “discuss” and “news”.  I think I am within my “rights” as a blogger…

Why Bother to Use Your Vote: does it really matter ?

Came across this which is relevant to me and thought others might find it interesting.

The website this is from can be found at    Vote Or Vote None

” Not voting makes you silent and invisible.

So before you miss this chance to use your vote, think …

Who gains by me not voting?

The short answer is: they do, not you.  Here’s why.

Why use your vote

Voting in democracy is the way in which ordinary people have some small power over the corporations, the state, and those with wealth and power.

Voting is how we gained education, health, safer work and pensions.  We didn’t always have them.

If you don’t use your vote, our politics is weakened, and ordinary people are weakened.

With weak politics, the banks, corporations and those with wealth have all the power.  That’s where we’re heading now.

By not voting, you weaken ordinary people, and suggest we don’t even know or care.

We don’t have the power to change the world on our own.  We would all be dictators if we did.  We have to change it with other people.  Politics is the tool to do it.

Bad politics is not like a duff product, where you can just replace it.  With bad politics, the only solution is… more politics to fix it.

By not voting, you just allow more bad politics.

We improve things through elections and debate.  We make our elected representatives accountable for what they do – by voting them in and out.  It seems the best option there is.  It’s not working well now, so together we need to improve it.

What matters most to every politician is
(a) their job, and
(b) their credibility through evidence of public support.

That’s why your vote matters.

Your vote scares them.  So use it.

Either Vote to improve the quality of the MPs who get elected, or Vote NONE to create

visible evidence of the lack of support and the demand for better UK politics. ”
